Lucky Philip Dube (August 3, 1964 – October 18, 2007) was one of South Africa's most popular reggae musicians. Born in Transvaal, Lucky joined a choir in school, and later formed his first musical ensemble - The Skyway Band, with some friends. At the age of 18 he joined his cousin's band, The Love Brothers, which played Zulu pop music known as
mbaqanga. Feeling that the socio-political messages associated with Jamaican reggae were relevant to a South
African music audience, Lucky began recording reggae music. With tracks such as “Fugitive”, Dube soon became the biggest selling reggae artist in South Africa, and one of the most popular in the world.
