Artist: Youssou N'Dour

Born in Dakar on 1 October, 1959, Youssou N'Dour is a Senegalese singer who began performing at 12 years old. Within a few years he became a regular performer with the Star Band, the most popular group in Dakar in the early 1970s, and later joined Orchestre Baobab . Credited with contributing to the development of popular African music in Senegal, known as mbalax, Youssou mixes this traditional Senegalese sound with eclectic influences that range from Cuban samba to hip hop, jazz and soul.
