Born on 27 January, 1958 in Thiès, Senegal, Habib Koité is a Malian afro-fusion singer who creates African music with blues and flamenco influences. His supporting cast, Bamada, is a group which he formed in 1988 with childhood friends, and which features Kélétigui Diabaté playing balafon. Koité was born to musical parents, from whom he learned instrumentation, and is today famous for his unique guitar playing which involves tuning the instrument on a pentatonic scale and playing on open strings. “Sin Djen Djen”, one of his best-known songs, earned him recognition across the continent and beyond, making him one of Africa’s most successful musicians internationally.
