Ismaël Lô (also Ismaël Lo) is a Senegalese musician who was born in Dogondoutchi, Niger on 30 August 1956. While growing up in Rufisque, Senegal, Lo loved music from an early age and got his start playing a homemade one-string guitar. Later his older brother asked him to play on a local television show and he was an instant hit, which inspired him to consider performing full-time. In 1979, he was invited to play in the Super Diamono band, a super group that played mbalax-blues. With his talent for guitar playing and song writing, Lo quickly established himself as a key figure in the band and soon became the band’s second lead singer and rhythm guitarist.
