Founded in 1996, Magic System is a band from Abidjan,
Ivory Coast which comprises of Salif "Asalfo" Traoré, Narcisse "Goude" Sadoua, Étienne "Tino" Boué Bi, and Adama "Manadja" Fanny. In the beginning, this foursome would get together during school and sports competitions, which were the essential melting pots of youth who had left the troubled neighbourhoods of Abidjan. Magic System's music features the
Zouglou dance style, which was popularised by their 1999 hit song “
1er Gaou
” which took the music world by storm. Since then, Magic System’s music has featured well in the charts throughout the world, making the band one of the most popular modern
African music groups.
