Rehema Chalamila, popularly known by her stage name Ray C, is a musician who was born on May 15, 1982 in Iringa,
Tanzania. Ray C’s
interest in music was apparent at the tender age of 12, but before venturing into recording music, she worked as a Dj for a Dar es Salaam-based radio station. She is today recognized for her distinct brand of
African music which features a unique fusion of
bongo flava, R&B, bhangra and
taarab -
as well as her belly dancing capabilities. Ray C has released many hits including “Uko Wapi?” which have solidified her status as the best female entertainer in East Africa today.
