Elisabeth Tshala Muana Muidikay, better known as Tshala Muana, was born on May 13, 1958 in Lubumbashi, Congo. During her early childhood, Tshala began singing at the church of a local military camp. She later began her career in
African music as a dancer/ choreographer for the group Tsheke Tsheke Love. It wasn’t until 1982 when she began her singing career, performing
mutuashi music in Lingala language. This earned Tshala the nickname “Queen of
Mutuashi” as she popularized this genre of music and dance the world over. Today, Tshala boasts of many hits to her name including
Nasi Nabali, which made her one of the most popular African songstresses of all time.
