Benga is a genre of popular music which evolved between the late 1940s and late 1960s, in Nairobi, Kenya. Originally invented by Kenya’s Luo people, benga began as a fusion of popular traditional folk songs with modern rumba. Characteristic instruments of the benga style of African music include the nyatiti and electric bass.
