Makossa is a style of
African music similar to
soukous, except that it features strong bass rhythm and a prominent horn section. Makossa originated in the 50s from the kossa dance, with significant influences from jazz, ambasse bey, Latin music, highlife and
rumba. In the late 60s, the style was popularized outside
Cameroon by artists such as Manu Dibango.
