Pépé Kallé (November 30, 1951 – November 28, 1998) was a soukous musician with a multi-octave vocal range. Born Kabasele Yampanya in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, the 6 feet 3 inches and 300 pound vocalist assumed the name of his mentor, Grand Kallé. His African music career kicked off with African Jazz band, then Lipua Lipua, before forming his own band Empire Bakuba. His 1988 collaboration with  Nyboma Mwandido featured the title track “Moyibi” which launched Pépé Kallé’s popularity throughout Africa and beyond. Read more on Wikipedia
